6 Weeks

Whoah what a week, the week started out great I was feeling really good and confident about being a Mum . Met a lovely girl in Bondi Junction on Wednesday and got invited to a new Mums group on thursday at her house. Evie is the dream baby compared to other Mums . Feeding and sleeping at night well. Well up until Friday everything was great then how quickly things can change . I got a cold and then passed it onto Evie she had a cough and I was really worried so took her to the doctor , then I developed Mastitis on Friday night. Horrible is the only way to describe it . SO Evie wasnt feeding as well because of her cold and I got all the wrong information from the doctor , I have just got her feeding well again today she was really fussy and refusing to feed which of course made me so upset, but we are back on track now. She is still quite unsettled and has cried more then normal but hey I can deal with crying just the not eating thing.

Our social calender is quite busy , we have a walk tomorrow in Centennial park with some new mums, thursday and friday we have two different mothers groups and going to a talk on parenting as well.

Evie had her 6 week check up and all is good healthy little baby . She weighs 4.6kg now and 59cms so she has grown allot in 6 weeks .

5 weeks Smiley Girl

My little girl is so cute now Im enjoying dressing her in pink. She is smiling more and more everyday and making so many more noises , cooing and gurgling. There is so much enjoyment when she smiles for the first few weeks its all about the boob and nothing else so I'm really getting excited about what she will do next.

I can't believe how much can come out of one small baby. Evie has started doing what I call the tornado poo, it seems she saves one up for a day then lets rip, it goes everywhere up the nappy and over the top down the legs all over everything she where. Its quite amazing really.

Back home now after spending a lovely few weeks with Dad and Maz. I'm enjoying getting her into a routine , I have met some girls who have just had babies so catching up with them tomorrow. It's funny meeting up with other new mums we all compare and ask does yours do this etc. But great to know we are all going through the same thing although I feel like i have dream baby compared to theirs. I'm still getting 8 hours plus a night sleep , Evie's only waking at 3.30 and 5,30 now. So awesome. But then I have to deal with her crying during the day. Not so bad.

I'm feeling a bit brain dead, think I will go back to studying as I have quite a few hours when she is sleeping . Good chance for me to learn German.

Evies first holiday - 4 weeks old

Dad , Maz and I decided to get away for five days to south west rocks,a sleepy little coastal town in between Port Macquarie and CoffsHarbour. We got a gorgeous little unit over looking the beach, it was great and very relaxing lots of long walks on the beach. Quite funny because every time Dad and I go places people congratulate both of us on our new baby , Dad's like no I'm the grandfather, I just giggle. Now I wonder why people smile at the me and the baby and then look strangely at Dad, hehe. So the time away was really nice, we went swimming everyday the water was 21 degrees and so warm. We did'nt have a bath at the unit so I bathed Evie in the kitchen sink she so loves the water and now we are having baths together everyday. So nice too share these moments with her. Shes just so cute and as much as I love seeing her change it's so nice her being small and compact.

Now I'm back at Port and I leave to go home this weekend. I'm really looking forward into getting into my new life and now I'm feeling really confident about being a Mum now. Evie's been quite unsettled during the day . I feel like its ground hog day at the moment. The same every three hours, feed change nappies burp, wrap settle put to bed cry ,more cries, she falls asleep wakes up cries falls asleep cries, feeds, burps etc. Today was the first day Evie has been interactive I had her on the toy gym (pictures above) and she was making some gurgles and happy noises and some smiling , nice change from all the crying. I'm getting used to the crying now and don't freak out everytime she goes bright red in the face and screams I know she's got wind and does'nt take me long to settle her. Wow she has some lungs on her , I also think she just needs to cry just to get all the energy out. Tonight she has slept for close to four hours , and at night shes great no crying . Few feeds every night, and Im not feeling too tired.

Shes starting to lose her hair at the front looks quite funny like a balding man. Its really fair underneath so I think she'll be a little blondie. Feeding is still going well, she gets very unhappy with me if I take her away from the boob. Ohoh shes waking better go and feed the little hungry bunny.

Week 3

Wow time flys when your busy with a newborn. I can't believe how much she is changing. It's all that feeding little chubber cheeks and little double chin coming along nicely.

This week has been mixed between days of silence and perfect sleeping baby to the complete opposite of screaming child, She has had some really bad wind but I prefer to have an awake baby during the days who sleeps most of the night then the other way around.Last night she woke everyhour tiring.

We have been getting out and about down the beach most days, she does'nt love the pram so I carry her in the wrap , Its awesome but im trying to get her used to not being on me all the time. Todays was successfull. I managed a walk to the beach and home and she slept for 3 hours after some crying. I had a sleep as well.

Its really beautiful here but Im really missing my friends. Think I will stay for 2 more weeks then headback to sydney. Plus there has been a whooping cough outbreak up here which is a bit scary.

Im feeling good apart from the tiredness , my scar is healed now and I cant wait to start excercising again.

Oh and I think I got my first smile today and I don't think it was wind this time.

2 weeks Today

Two weeks have flown by so fast and I'm just busy all the time well it feel s like it anyway. Today was a tough one Evies had lots of wind the last few days so shes pretty unsettled, seems like I have held her all day today. She has found her lungs the last few days wow babies can cry. The first seven days she was amazing and I didnt even hear her cry much at all , well shes defiantley made up for it now.

I arrived at dad and Mazz's last night so we are in Port Macquarie or Bonny Hills which is about 30 mins south of Port. I decided to go away for a few weeks to recover after my surgery as it was quite a shock to my system, and its pretty hard at my apartment with the stairs.. It's nice to be away but I think I'll get bored pretty quick . The weathers been terrible so lot's of days in .

Think shes just going through the unsettled period which is suppose to be normal doesnt make it any easier. Its so hard when you don'tknow what's wrong with them and they just cry. Dad 'sbeen amazing taking over whenI need a break.

Evie had her first check at the early childhood centre yesterday , they were really lovely there and everything is great apart from the wind issues .Evie has put on 500gms in under two weeks which is amazing considering normal weight gain is 150gms a week little fatty. Shes feeding really well, Im enjoying breast feeding her

She's Here

Introducing my new little one Evie Lee born 7/04/09 at 12.10am birth weight 3.04kg or 6 pounds 11 and 50 cms long. Here is my new blog on Evie which I will update regularly with pictures.

Well my waters broke at 12.30am on Monday morning , bit of a shock as I was asleep but exciting as I knew it was all about to begin. I wasn’t sure if it was the hot thai curry, the walk on bondi or the acupressure points Dad was pressing for me, lucky for me dad and Maz were staying that night. 24 hours later and had a beautiful little girl.

It all didn’t go to plan , the natural birth that is and I ended up having an emergency caesarian but Im grateful for her being here safe and healthy. The whole experience was quite traumatic so Im not going into detail just that I got really high fevers and baby was distressed so they needed to get her out quick.

I was feeling very relaxed throughout the whole ceasar not worried at all only I just could'nt wait to meet her and the doctors were just amazing. The whole hospital staff have just been brilliant.

Mum and Anne coped amazingly well considering how long and tough it was for me , I also had the help of Helen my hypnobirthing teacher she was amazing and I honestly wouldn’t of coped if they weren’t t there with me. Now it feels like a dream and it feels like 2 hours not 24 they say that you get like an amnesia after birth. Good thing the human body I’m just thankful that I had done the relaxations and hypno which allowed me to get through the tough times during the whole labour.

SO little miss is finally here and she’s gorgeous today was a great day , she fed really well all day lots of feeds and lots of little sleeps and lots of cuddle times, think her favorite spot is just sleeping on my boob, Oh I love watching her its just amazing, We both struggled a little last night think because it was such a shock to both our systems I was doped up on morphine and not quite with it and she would not settle lucky for me the mid wifes took her for a few hours so I could sleep, but today’s been a whole new day . I gave her first bath she absolutely loves the water ,I think all those baths I took every day pregnancy where I trickled water on my belly payed off. She has the longest fingernails and has given herself a few scratches on the face. Shes so cute I just want to eat her up. But I’m biased I’m her mother. Well this is the first of many more blogs to come on the life of Evie Lee Vassallo.
